What was just a rumor a few weeks ago has just been confirmed by Disney. The Caribbean Beach resort is going to be expanding… but so is Coronado Springs.
According to Disney, the Caribbean Beach expansion will be a “re-imagining” with heavy expansion of Centertown, the main building and marketplace at the resort. Chief among the updates to Centertown is a new waterfront dining and retail area. This may mean that a new table service restaurant is being planned, or that they’re moving all of the dining and shopping out of its current location into a facility that’s closer to the lagoon to better service guests in the more remote areas of the resort.
Coronado Springs is also getting a major upgrade, with a new 15 story tower that will overlook Lago Dorado and provide a great view of the fireworks from a proposed rooftop restaurant. This upscale tower will feature 500 rooms, including suites, and will have concierge level service. This makes sense as Coronado Springs has always been more of a “corporate” hotel, but I have to wonder if it will still be considered a moderate once the renovation is complete?
Also, while not announced, the addition of DVC villas is still a possibility as it seems to be part of Disney’s current business model to add villas to every deluxe resort hotel. So far the moderates haven’t had the DVC upgrade, but with this kind of expansion planned on two of the three moderates, it’s a definite possibility.
No word on that aerial gondola system just yet, but if they’re already renovating Caribbean Beach, then it would make sense to begin construction on that as well.
Stay tuned to The Kingdom Insider for more details as they become available.
