CONFIRMED – Splash Mountain Getting SECOND Refurbishment in January 2018

If you want to ride Splash Mountain this year, you will have a small window of opportunity from mid-November through early January. On January 8, 2018 the attraction will once again be closed for refurbishment. Splash Mountain is currently being refurbished, and is scheduled to re-open by November 15.

We held off on posting this until we had some concrete proof (as it seems a bit odd) but according to the Disney Travel Agents website, Splash Mountain will indeed be going down for maintenance in January as it usually does. It is scheduled to reopen on February 1, 2018.

Other planned maintenance includes the Liberty Square Riverboat, which will be down from January through June next year, and Kali River Rapids undergoing a typical January refurbishment.

I've loved Disney as long as I can remember. As a former newspaper editor, web developer, and Disney comics freelancer, I'm able to combine that experience into writing about Disney online. I'm also the co-host of a Disney fan podcast called 'Pirates & Princesses.' Opinions mine.

  1. I have called and spoken to many agents to question whether Splash will indeed be down again in January 2018 because this would have a huge impact on our travel plans. They have all said that it will be open and they are showing real time and updated info. They all say it would be very strange and to trust their info vs. the Disney Travel Agents info which has been know to have mistakes (that sounds odd too). They all swear that they have access to the most accurate info and that it is scheduled to be open. Any thoughts on the accuracy of Disney Travel Agents site? Do you have any other inside sources saying it will be closed in January 2018? Just trying to figure out as soon as I can if I need to change my plans. Thanks!

    • It does sound odd, and we actually held off on posting this information until it went live on the DTA site. January to February is the normal downtime for water attractions, but it’s odd to take it down again after such a lengthy refurb. So far we haven’t had any other confirmation aside from DTA, but if it changes we’ll be sure to post it!
