When Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast premiered earlier this year, audiences were enthralled by Dan Stevens’ performance at The Beast.

However, bringing The Beast to life took a monumental amount of effort on both the part of Stevens and the production crew. USA Today has posted a behind-the-scenes video of how The Beast was created on its Facebook page, and it’s pretty fascinating stuff. For his facial movements, Stevens was essentially using a very high-end “Snapchat” filter, similar to how Disney has been de-aging its actors.

Beauty and the Beast comes to home video on June 6, 2017, and will include a ton of other behind-the-scenes videos.

I've loved Disney as long as I can remember. As a former newspaper editor, web developer, and Disney comics freelancer, I'm able to combine that experience into writing about Disney online. I'm also the co-host of a Disney fan podcast called 'Pirates & Princesses.' Opinions mine.
