Walt Disney Company’s, Disney Consumer Products announced the launch of a new e-commerce site design, shopDisney. This new site features Disney, Disney Parks, Pixar, Star War, Marvel merchandise and co-branded products all in one place. It has their collaborations with Coach, Ethan Allen, Steiff, Le Creuset, Lego, and more, available for purchase in the digital store. So the Disney Store online, but with more.
The site also features an “The IT List” which will features exclusive capsule collections from various brands. Right now there are pieces from SIWY, Coach, David Lerner, Alex Rue, Stance, and NCLA.
Disney also revealed a new prototype Disney store layout that is being tested in select stores around the world. According to the Markets Business Insider:
“… new prototype Disney store design, which is being tested in select locations around the world bringing the magic of Disney to retail through innovative technology, storytelling and cast member interaction….Disney stores around the world will also be incorporating more product for guests of all ages, beyond their traditionally child-centric assortment, the company said.”
The new design started happening back in July. Disney wanted to research how customers react to the changes. The floor plans are simpler, large movie type screens have been added, and more items for adults have returned. Relying on theme park cues, Disney began experimenting with a “vacation” feel to their stores.
The New York Times talks about what the screens will be used for:
“The redesign makes Disney’s stores a bit more like Disney’s theme parks. For instance, daily parades at Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida will be streamed live to those colossal video screens. During the parades, store personnel will put out mats for shoppers to sit on and roll out souvenir carts stocked with cotton candy and light-up Mickey Mouse ears. The screens could easily be used to stream other events, such as red carpet arrivals for Disney movie premieres.”
These new “prototype stores are open in Century City and Northridge, California, Nagoya, Japan, and Shanghai, China. Two more will open September 28 in Miami, Florida and later this year in Munich, Germany.
The e-store is up now. So go and check it out!
