Big news from Walt Disney Animation Studios. Pun completely intended.
The upcoming adaptation of “Jack and the Beanstalk” called “Gigantic” has been shelved.
According to Ed Catmull, president of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, it was a tough call.
“Sometimes, no matter how much we love an idea or how much heart goes into it, we find that it just isn’t working. We’ve come to that point, and although it’s a difficult decision, we are ending active development for now. We are focusing our energies on another project that has been in the works, which we’ll be sharing more about soon, now set for Thanksgiving 2020.”
The film was first announced at the D23 Expo in 2015 and was set to be directed by Tangled’s Nathan Greno, with music by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez of Frozen fame.
There’s no telling if Disney will ever revisit Gigantic. Disney-Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur was in development limbo for several years before finally being released in 2015.
There were rumors about a Spain pavilion in the Epcot World Showcase debuting with an attraction based on Gigantic. Clearly that’s not going to happen.
