Attention all current and future Disney Cruise Line fans! Disney announced yesterday, at D23, that a third ship is being built in-addition to two ships announced last year. With all the updates, special events and new itineraries, Disney is really stepping up their, already superior, game!
We decided two ships wouldn’t be enough to hold all of the exciting new experiences we have been dreaming up to take family cruise vacations to a whole new level with immersive Disney storytelling, world-class family entertainment, and imaginative innovations that are fantastically fun and uniquely Disney, Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, said.
Three New Ships Coming to Disney Cruise Line
All three ships are being built at Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany. The first two, announced last year have scheduled completion dates in 2021 and 2023. The additional ship will be built at the same shipyard and is scheduled to be completed sometime in 2022. It seems like they had already planned to build three new ships, but wanted to hold out 1 ship to announce at D23.
While still 4 years away, no ship names, designs or itineraries have been announced for these three ships. We only know today that each of the three ships will have unique experiences. All three ships will be powered by clean-burning liquefied natural gas and all will be the same size. Each ship will have about 1,250 guest rooms and weigh approximately 135,000 gross tons. Therefore, these new ships slightly larger than the newest Disney Cruise Line ships, the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy.
