Good news for WDW Annual Passholders. Disney is extending the 20% dining discount through December 23, 2017. The discount, which is good at many Disney restaurants (see this list) was originally scheduled to end on September 30.
Now, that’s the good news for passholders.
But it may mean bad news for Disney, as it’s being speculated the deal is being extended due to sluggish attendance according to Nasdaq.
Extending a generous promotion for nearly three more months may not seem like a desperate move, but it suggests that it’s still not business as usual at the House of Mouse. Attendance has been sluggish since last year, and if ending a popular promotion may cost it repeat visits from its base of annual shareholders, this isn’t the time to take that kind of chance.
It’s been rumored that Disney might be looking to lay off some Cast Members should the downward trend continues.
It’s unclear why attendance is down at Walt Disney World, but it’s likely that economics and the fact that many of the new lands will not be open for a few more years yet has something to do with it. Many feel that the parks no longer cater to the middle class, and with Disney being a destination most families only travel to once every few years, many are likely waiting for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and the revamped Epcot before trekking to Orlando.
Regardless, for Disney die-hards there will likely be good deals to be had between now and the 50th Anniversary in 2021.
