According Reuters and Bloomberg, Twenty First Century Fox is getting closer to a deal to sell off many of its assets. Currently Disney is the frontrunner, according to the rumors, as they feel it would be a better strategic fit.
From the report…
The company is in talks with Disney and Comcast Corp (CMCSA.O) to combine certain assets with the potential buyers, and the Murdoch family aims to make a decision by the end of the year, according to Bloomberg.
Reuters had reported last month that apart from Disney, both Comcast and Verizon Communications Inc (VZ.N) had also expressed interest in acquiring a significant part of Fox’s assets.
The Disney-Fox deal, should it come to fruition, would create an even more powerful entertainment powerhouse that would likely see Disney get back the rights to Marvel properties such as The Fantastic Four and X-Men, the original unaltered Star Wars trilogy and ownership of the Avatar franchise as well as access to thousands of other movie franchises and television series. This would be a boon for Disney’s upcoming streaming service, and the deal should make competitors like Netflix very, very nervous.
There has been no comment from Disney or Fox on this deal, and likely when it happens the news will just suddenly drop like Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm and Marvel. Stay tuned to The Kingdom Insider for more details on the Disney-Fox deal as we hear it.
