Disney Layoffs: Company Rumored to Cut 200 Television Employees

Disney has been struggling to retain its cable viewership in the internet age for a few years now, and the word is that the company will be cutting a couple hundred employees loose soon.

According to Reuters, the largest number of employees will be at ABC and other channels, and in operational areas. Strangely, ESPN will avoid cuts despite reports of struggling.

The cuts likely dovetail with Disney’s plans to increase its focus on digital initiatives, like the upcoming streaming service and the recently announced Movies Anywhere.

More Layoffs Coming?

There have been rumors circulating about more layoffs coming to Disney’s parks as well, as the word is that Disney’s theme park attendance wasn’t quite what they were hoping for in 2016-2017.
