Disneyland to Raise Minimum Wage to $15 Per Hour in January for Many Employees

Disneyland will start paying more than 8,600 unionized cast members $15 per hour beginning in January 2019.

From the OC Register…

The contract immediately boosts those workers’ minimum pay to $13.25 an hour from $11, followed by the jump to $15 next year. California’s legal wage floor for large companies is set to rise to $15 an hour in 2022.

The pay increase is not across the board for all of Disneyland’s employees, however. The contract does not affect at Disneyland’s other unions, nor does it raise the wages of Disney’s non-union employees. California’s legal wage floor for large companies is set to rise to $15 an hour sometime in 2022.

The agreement comes in the wake of Disneyland being scrutinized by local news media for its wages in relation to its record-breaking profits. The unions initially sought a minimum wage of $20 per hour as the cost of living in Orange County is insanely high.
