It’s time to say goodbye to the Muppets Courtyard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The small themed area that hosts MuppetVision 3D is getting an extreme makeover, much like the rest of the park. It will soon be known as “Grand Avenue” according to Disney.
From the Orlando Sentinel…
Walt Disney Imagineering has been called upon to create an area “inspired by the revitalization and the vibrant culture of present-day downtown Los Angeles,” according to a post on the official Disney Parks Blog. To achieve this, part of the former Streets of America section of the park will be incorporated into Grand Avenue.
The area will also include the new BaseLine Tap House, which will serve California-inspired beers and food.
The Great Muppet Purge?
MuppetVision 3D stays put… for now. But the MuppetVision theater was recently renamed the Grand Arts Theatre, and the signage looks, dare I say, very temporary. That, in addition to Disney’s dispute with Muppeteer Steve Whitmire (who voices several characters in the show) and unannounced downtime makes me wonder just how long MuppetVision 3D will last in the radically overhauled Hollywood Studios.
In Disney California Adventure, MuppetVision 3D was closed and the venue was renamed the Sunset Showcase Theatre, which now shows Disney movie previews.
PizzeRizzo also stays, but there’s still no word on the fate of the Stage 1 Muppets-themed gift shop.[Source: Orlando Sentinel]
