The trailer has officially launched on Monday February, 5 for the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story film, to mixed reviews.
Now Entertainment Weekly has posted some new images of the upcoming film. Looks like the promotion wagon has finally started to roll!
Take a look at the new images:
The title character of Han Solo is being played by Alden Ehrenreich.
I’m sure this was an intimidating role to take on. Han Solo is one of the most popular characters in the Star Wars universe.
Alden actually met with Harrison Ford about playing the younger version of his famous character and this is the advice Harrison gave him, in true Harrison Ford/Han Solo form:
“Tell them I told you everything you needed to know, and that you can’t tell anyone.”
Lucasfilm President (and Solo producer) Kathleen Kennedy said that there was more to it than that. She’s known Harrison Ford for years. She added:
“What he did so beautifully for Alden was he talked a lot about what he remembered when he first read Star Wars, and what George had done with Han. Who the character was and the conversations he had for so many years with George about how that character developed. He gave Alden that kind of insight which was invaluable. There were several times in the course of making the movie where Alden would actually recount some of the things that Harrison had pointed out. I think that was really, really helpful to him.”
I know a lot of people are concerned that he won’t be like Han, and after the trailer the fans were torn. Personally, I think he pulled it off, but only time will tell.
A younger Lando is being played by Donald Glover. He actually met with Billy Dee Williams and got this advice:
“…he just told me, just be charming. He said, “Just be interested in things… Lando has, I wouldn’t say eccentric, but eclectic tastes.”
Qi’ra, played by Emilia Clarke, is someone from Han’s past. They grew up together and worked together. But she’s apparently going to be a very mysterious character who’s hard to read.
I loved what actress Emilia Clarke said about the women in Solo’s life:
“Han Solo is only surrounded by strong women. He doesn’t know any woman who doesn’t stand up for herself, has got game and chops and intelligence and wit. Those are the only women in his life. And then he meets Leia, so it all kind of falls into place.”
The Conveyex is a double-sided train-type vehicle.
From the description it appears they are participating in less than legal activities.
Tobias is played by actor Woody Harrelson. The relationship betweet Beckett and Solo was inspired by the relationship between Long John Silver and Jim Hawkins from Treasure Island.
The Millennium Falcon
The Falcon is truly a character all to itself. It’s also one of the most iconic vehicles in the Star Wars Universe.
But, the front looks a bit different here. I’ve heard various theories about why it’s changed, the most popular being theory involves the Kessel Run. We shall see in a few months!
L3-37 is the new droid in this film and also Lando’s Partner.
The droid is played by using motion capture tech from Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
What makes L3-37 special is that she is a droid that belongs to no one and she has made the changes and upgrades to herself. I love this idea!
She is an individual not just a manufactured droid.
Mimban is a place from the 1978 book “Splinter of the Mind’s Eye,” by Allan Dean Foster. It’s a swamp planet with frequent thunderstorms and perpetual mist.
In the original book, Vader was there searching for a “Kaiburr crystal.” As we all know a lot of the books have now been scrapped from the cannon of Star Wars, but they still use Kybur crystals to power light sabers in the new cannon.
There you have a look at some images from the film coming out on May 25, 2018. I’m really looking forward to this one!
