Since December 2016, Disney’s Express Transportation service offered guests direct park to park transportation. Once a park guest passed security and entered the park, they could bypass security the rest of the day. Guests with a park hopper and express transportation could access a bus backstage. They would then be transported directly to the backstage area of another park. This seemed to be quite a great idea and was relatively cheap. At $19 for one day and $29 for up to seven consecutive days, it’s seemed to be a great value! Furthermore, Disney released a $59 pass for Annual Passholders, which were valid from June 5-August 10. It seems like Disney knew they were discontinuing service and wanted to grab a bit more revenue from the failing service.
What went wrong with Express Transportation?
It is hard to tell, but in my own opinion, I do not think it was marketed very well. Almost everyone I spoke with, both friends, family and clients, had no Idea this existed. Some of my clients, especially those that have kids with strollers called it a “no-brainer.” With the recent announcements of the “Minnie Vans” and the Disney Skyliner. It feels like there was more effort in marketing them than the Express Transportation. I hope both of them do well and I am saddened that Express Transportation did not. I wanted to use this service and I also had many clients who wanted to as well.
Disney’s Express Transportation will stop selling tickets on August 16, 2017 and service will run through August 23, 2017 to accommodate the multi day option.
