With all of the changes coming to Epcot, the Disney rumor mill has been in overdrive since this summer’s D23 Expo. We’ve known that many of the changes coming to Epcot Future World have yet to be announced, but this is honestly the first time we’ve heard this particular rumor.

According to WDW News Today, Disney may be contemplating placing a hotel at the entrance of Future World, directly in front of Spaceship Earth.

From WDWNT…

If approved, the resort will stand at one of two proposed sites, either between The Land and The Seas pavilions in Future World, or directly over the entrance to Epcot, most likely connecting to the preexisting monorail station in some way. If the design located in front of Spaceship Earth is approved, it shouldn’t block the view of Spaceship Earth completely, but rather be used to frame the famous structure between towers or something of the sort.

Well, I guess framing Spaceship Earth wouldn’t be too terrible, but I’m not completely sold on a hotel being the very first thing you see when you walk into Epcot, either. If approved, I’m curious to see what Imagineering comes up with.

Other rumors swirling about Epcot’s icon include the possibility of a complete refurb, one that could include gutting the attraction to convert it into a thrill ride. We’re not sure feasible that actually is, given that the ride system is attached to the inside of the geodesic sphere, but with Seimens out as a sponsor the future of the beloved attraction is up in the air.

In the meantime, enjoy this tribute to the classic versions of Spaceship Earth.
