Will Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom get even more Avatar? Will Dinoland U.S.A. finally go extinct? These are some of the latest rumors floating around regarding Disney’s fourth gate.
More Avatar in Animal Kingdom?
According to Vulture, Disney is already looking to expand Pandora – The World of Avatar to coincide with the planned sequels that will hit theaters… someday.
Despite a massive $500 million spend on Pandora, Disney is looking to boost attendance in Animal Kingdom even more in anticipation of the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World in 2021. At D23 last month, new attractions were announced for every park except Animal Kingdom. While the fourth Disney gate did see an increase in attendance earlier this summer, reports are that overall crowds are declining, with many apparently waiting for new attractions such as Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in 2019.
The expansion is rumored to include a new table service restaurant and a third ride.

The current release dates for Avatar 2 and 3 seem to be 2020 and 2021, respectively. A joint marketing effort between the parks and the films would seem very likely, as one of the biggest criticisms of Pandora is that it’s based on a film that is nearly a decade old.
Disney likely has bigger plans for James Cameron’s blue cat people than people realize, and built Pandora in anticipation of the future of the Avatar franchise — not just to cash in on what was still a fairly popular movie in 2011 when the expansion was announced.
Will Chester and Hester’s Dino-Rama go extinct?
Rumors are also swirling about the future of another part of Animal Kingdom — Dinoland U.S.A. Derided by Disney fans for being built “on the cheap” with off-the-shelf “carnie” attractions, Dino-Rama seems to be in decline. Rumors are swirling about the possibility of Dinosaur being converted to Disneyland’s Indiana Jones Adventure, but how that fits with the theme of Animal Kingdom is anyone’s guess. Other rumors say that the Primeval Whirl may be shut down in a year or two to make way for a new land of some kind. It sounds as if time is running out for Dinoland U.S.A.
Zootopia replacing Rafiki’s Planet Watch?
We’ve been talking about the possibility of Zootopia replacing Rafiki’s Planet Watch for a few months now. Rumors continue to circulate about this, with even noted Disney insider Jim Hill chiming in on the possibility.
Zootopia is insanely popular and would fit very well in Animal Kingdom, so we find this rumor to be likely. However, a massive overhaul such as this would probably happen after the 50th Anniversary in 2021.
Clearly, there’s more to come for Disney’s Animal Kingdom… but what? We’ll have to wait for official announcements from Disney to find out![Source: Orlando Weekly]
