Is Disney planning another attraction for Walt Disney World’s Epcot World Showcase? If Disney insiders are to be believed, it’s a definite possibility.
According to the rumor, another new attraction is currently in early planning stages for the UK Pavilion in the World Showcase. While Ratatouille was announced at D23, this would seem to indicate that Disney is not done with the World Showcase yet — or maybe they’re just beginning, with Future World getting some much needed attention first. Remember, new pavilions have been rumored for several years, with Brazil seemingly being the frontrunner.
The rumors, which seem to be originating from insiders on WDW Magic, indicate that some of the IP currently being considered for the attraction include Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland, Brave or even a ride based on the Loch Ness Monster. Other “UK” IP that likely would not be included would be Peter Pan and Winnie the Pooh, as there are already attractions based on both in the Magic Kingdom.
The insiders on WDW Magic have proven themselves time and time again, with most of what was officially confirmed at D23 having originating there. So I tend to think that there are at least discussions going on pertaining to such an attraction.
Personally, my money would be on Mary Poppins as the property is one of Disney’s most beloved (and timeless) classics, it’s uniquely British, has become a pop culture meme as of late, and a much-hyped sequel is coming next year. She’s also getting kicked out of The Great Movie Ride with its closure, so there’s definitely an opportunity there to give her a ride of her own. It could be that Disney is simply waiting to see how Mary Poppins Returns is received before moving ahead with an attraction.
However, Alice in Wonderland certainly would let Imagineering run wild.
Whatever the case may be, it seems there’s still much more to be announced for the World Showcase before Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021.
