Fantastic Four NOT Coming to MCU, ‘Doctor Doom’ Movie Planned

Sorry, true believers. The Fantastic Four are not coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At least not for the foreseeable future.

It was announced at San Diego Comic-Con that Fox is currently planning a standalone Doctor Doom movie that might star Legion and Beauty and the Beast actor Dan Stevens.

It looks like Noah Hawley’s newly announced Doctor Doom movie at Fox may feature a reunion between the writer and director with one of his Legion stars: Dan Stevens. The news of Hawley developing a Doctor Doom film with Fox – the same studio he’s worked well with so far on Legion – was one of the biggest and most unexpected announcements to come out of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con up until this point.

I think Fox has done a terrible job with their handling of the Fantastic Four, and I’d love to see a deal worked out with Marvel Studios.

However, Legion is an incredible show, and Dan Stevens is an amazing actor. Given how awfully Doom was handled in the Fox films before, they might be on the right track here. Unfortunately that means we won’t see him terrorizing the Avengers or Spider-Man any time soon, which makes me a little sad.

Last weekend four mysterious cloaked figures were on display next to Thanos at Disney’s D23 Expo. Many fans were hoping that these figures turned out to be the Fantastic Four, and that they would be appearing in Avengers: Infinity War. However, they turned out to be Thanos’ Black Order, which was still pretty awesome… just not nearly as much as a Fantastic Four reveal would have been.

Someday, maybe?

I've loved Disney as long as I can remember. As a former newspaper editor, web developer, and Disney comics freelancer, I'm able to combine that experience into writing about Disney online. I'm also the co-host of a Disney fan podcast called 'Pirates & Princesses.' Opinions mine.
