TRON 3 Update: Jared Leto Wants to Help Revive Disney Franchise

Greetings, programs!

There may be a bit of good news regarding the long-delayed third TRON film, and it may be thanks to Jared Leto.

According to Movie Pilot, the musician/actor is keenly interested in pursuing another TRON film. And while it seemed for a time that Disney was deleting TRON 3 from its upcoming movie roster, the addition of the upcoming TRON Lightcycle Power Run roller coaster in Walt Disney World has apparently sparked a renewed interest in the IP.

When the rumors initially dropped, the only name already attached to the project was actor-musician #JaredLeto. While it remained unclear whether or not the studio is moving forward off the back of Tron: Legacy, it was reported that Leto would star in the film as a brand new character named Ares and that he’d also serve as a producer. According to mythology, Ares is the God of War so it might be a subtle hint that Leto is attached to play a villain, perhaps similar to the Master Control Program or Clu.

Now, this is hardly a confirmation by Disney. But Leto is gaining some power in Hollywood with roles like The Joker in Suicide Squad and a well-received character in the critically acclaimed Blade Runner 2049. With a bankable rising star pushing hard for another TRON movie, Disney may be wise to listen.

Other rumors regarding TRON 3 include the movie being filmed entirely in virtual reality, and the apparent lack of interest from Tron himself, Bruce Boxleitner.

There was nearly a 30 year gap between TRON and TRON: Legacy. However, it’s looking more and more likely that we’ll see a new TRON movie sooner rather than later.
