It’s been one year since the tragic shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida.
Disney has posted a video on its Disney Parks Blog detailing how the tragedy affected their cast members, and the ways Disney tried to make a difference in the Orlando community in the wake of the horrible event.
From the blog…
Today, we remember those we lost in the Pulse tragedy. Along with our Orlando community, we are focused on inspiring continued hope and healing with every act of love and kindness shared with others. #OrlandoUnitedDay
On June 12, 2016, Omar Mateen opened fire in the Pulse nightclub in downtown Orlando, killing 49 people and wounding 50 more. Early this morning, the names of all 49 victims were read aloud at the Pulse nightclub in remembrance.
“I realize that gathering here in this place, at this hour, is beyond difficult,” Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said during the service, according to the AP. “But I also know that the strength you’ve shown over the past year will carry you through today and in the future.”
Since the shooting, security has been greatly heightened on Disney property, as it was believed Mateen had thought about committing the massacre at Disney Springs.
