‘The Watcher in the Woods’ Remake is Scarier Than the Original

There’s a remake coming of the 1980s Disney cult classic “The Watcher in the Woods.” The teaser trailer has been posted online, and it looks significantly creepier than the original.

The trailer gives off a retro Stranger Things kind of a vibe, which I’m sure is completely intentional given that the original film premiered in 1980.

Some of the scenes are very, very reminiscent of the original. Others, however, seem to be completely new. This includes several references to plague doctors throughout the trailer.

The new version of the film stars Angelica Houston as Mrs. Aylwood, a role originally played by the late Bette Davis. It’s directed by Melissa Joan Hart and is based on the 1976 novel of the same name.

The movie definitely has a spooky pedigree. Houston played Morticia Addams in the 1990s Addams Family movies. Hart was, of course, Sabrina, the Teenaged Witch.

Now, the only question I have is whether or not the cheesy alien creature that was scrapped from the original Disney ending makes it into the film.

“The Watcher in the Woods” premieres on October 21, 2017 on Lifetime (a channel jointly owned by Disney and Hearst)… just in time for Halloween.

I've loved Disney as long as I can remember. As a former newspaper editor, web developer, and Disney comics freelancer, I'm able to combine that experience into writing about Disney online. I'm also the co-host of a Disney fan podcast called 'Pirates & Princesses.' Opinions mine.
