7 Things We Know About Toy Story Land At Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Toy Story Land will be coming soon to Walt Disney World.  Here are 7 things we know about the upcoming new addition.

1. It will open on June 30, 2018.

Most of us were expecting a Memorial Day opening date, but it was announced today that the new addition to Disney’s Hollywood Studios park will open on June 30.

2. Toy Story Midway Mania will have the entrance re-located into the Toy Story Land area.

The Toy Story Mania entrance area is going to the other side of the building so it is integrated better into the Toy Story Land area.  Beginning April 9 and going until early May, guests will not be able to get Fast Passes for the ride. We assume it is because they are restructuring and relocating the entrance, but that wasn’t confirmed. There are two rumors  here. The first is they will close down one track and the second is they will only have one track opened. Either way, we do know there will be no fast passes available until around May 7.

**new info?** We have just heard a rumor that they might close Toy Story Midway Mania down for 2 months prior to opening.  This makes more sense if they are completely relocating the entrance, but right now it’s not confirmed. It’s simply a rumor.

3. The New Area is 11 Acres in size

How big is that? Well if a football field is about 1.32 acres and you divide 11 by 1.32 you get about 8 1/3 football fields. So it’s a pretty big area.

4. There Will Be a Family Friendly Coaster

The Slinky Dog Dash Coaster is an exciting new addition to the park.  The slinky dog cars are adorable, and in leaked footage we saw them testing the track and the little dips actually make it look like it’s slinking as it goes!

Disney’s description:

“.. Slinky Dog’s coils to the limit across Andy’s backyard! Come along for a roller-coaster-style ride as he bends and twists and stretches his way all throughout this new land.”

From aerial images we’ve seen it’s a good size track that moves all around the new addition area, which is supposed to be “Andy’s backyard.”

The description on the Disney site is:

“Slinky Dog’s coils to the limit across Andy’s backyard! Come along for a roller-coaster-style ride as he bends and twists and stretches his way all throughout this new land.”

5. Alien Swirling Saucers

The second new attraction in Toy Story Land will be the Alien Swirling Saucers. When we were at “One Man’s Dream” last week, the lady there said she heard they will be similar to Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree in Disney California Adventure park. A bit like an old school “Whip” ride, where vehicles move around with the music.  Disney offered this description for the Alien Swirling Saucers:

“Inside a play set that Andy won at Pizza Planet, the Aliens have powered up their flying saucers—and they’re ready to spin you on a wild ride into space! Hold on for some wild fun as your toy rocket takes off, all while electronic space music provides an intergalactic soundtrack.

And if you’re really lucky, you might just get “chosen” by the claw. Oooooo!”

Here’s a recent aerial shot of the attraction from @bioreconstruct on Twitter.

6. A New Counter Service Restaurant

There will be a new quick service eatery called Woody’s Lunch Box.  From the images we’ve seen it’s just like the name describes it. A lunchbox that is now a restaurant.  (I especially like the Scrabble tile “Toilet’s” sign. I hope that makes it into the final version.)

Here’s the official Description:

“During your upcoming Toy Story Land adventures, be sure to drop by this food stop for a toy-riffic meal. Dishing out all sorts of tasty treats for “honorary toys,” Woody’s Lunch Box features classic American fare, old-fashioned soda floats and other Toy Story-themed specialties.”

7. Larger than Life Toys

This is taking place in “Andy’s back yard” where you have been shrunken down to the size of a toy. If you’ve been through the queue of Toy Story Midway Mania, you’ve already experienced the “size of a toy” look. They’ve taken that and made the whole park like that.

From Disney:

“This is your chance to be surrounded by giant building blocks and board games that Andy’s rigged up into a playground straight out of his vivid imagination—where kids and grown-ups alike can play with new attractions, fan-favorite experiences and other Toy Story adventures”

But wait, there’s more!  Here are a few more fun facts provided by Good Morning America.

“– More than 400 toy blocks fill Andy’s backyard.

— In Toy Story Land, Andy’s footprint is about 25 feet long or the equivalent of a size 240 shoe.

— It would take a Green Army Man roughly 12 steps just to travel the length of one of Andy’s shoeprints.

— You would need a backpack the size of a school bus to carry the Buzz and Woody figures that tower over Toy Story Land.

— The weight of the Slinky Dog Dash track and support columns weighs almost as much as 125,000 gallons of milk.

— Together Rex and the Jenga Tower are as tall as 7½ Green Army Men standing on top of one another.”

So there you have it! 7 things we know and 6 fun facts about the upcoming Toy Story Land.
