The day has finally come and Avengers Campus is now officially open! I have been to the new Marvel-themed land twice now and it is pretty amazing Insiders! You can tell Disney Imagineers put in a ton of work to make this new Campus extremely immersive and they created amazing experiences for us all. I’m going to take you through what you can expect to experience once you get a chance to visit Avengers Campus for yourself!
Attractions and Shows
Guardians of the Galaxy
Guardians of the Galaxy will forever be one of my most favorite rides at California Adventure. I will admit I was a bit skeptical when they changed the theme from Tower of Terror to Guardians of the Galaxy because I absolutely loved the original theme. However, the Guardians re-theme was done brilliantly and fits right into Avengers Campus. The ride is so much fun and the music is rockin’! Plus, there are now splashes of “space remnants” recently revealed to be a cosmic disruption and can be seen in front of the attraction, thanks to the Collector’s fortress warping the ground.
WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure
Honestly, this ride was just ok. The graphics are amazing and the ride itself was high-tech. I personally thought it seemed a little too much like Toy Story Mania, except you use your wrists to sling webs rather than using a toy gun to shoot. Nevertheless, Spiderman fans are sure to have a blast on this fun attraction!
Dr. Strange: Mysteries of the Mystic Arts
I was able to catch the last showing of the night for Dr. Strange: Mysteries of the Mystic Arts and I highly recommend you get a showing after dark. The Ancient Sanctum, and all of Avengers Campus, is quite breathtaking at night when everything is all lit up. I have gone once during daylight and once at night and highly recommend going in the evening for the best experience. The Dr. Strange show is pure magic. Once the show starts, mist swirls around large, ornate, mythical golden doors that open up to display an impressive and magical scene. I don’t want to ruin it for you, but if you’re a Dr. Strange fan you will definately want to check it out! Here’s the official description of the show from Disney:
You and your fellow recruits have been invited to visit the Avengers Campus, meet Doctor Strange and open your eyes to the mysteries of the multiverse. Don’t miss this once-in-infinite-lifetimes chance to learn the secrets of the mystic arts.
You’ll feel like time will stop when you come face to face with Doctor Strange and he demonstrates his mystical abilities. Who knows, someday you may need this knowledge to defend the earth, and our reality, from threats beyond your imagination!
This was the most fun part of the experience for me personally. Seeing Black Widow, Ant Man, Captain America, Thor, Loki, and all over favorite Marvel characters up close and personal was an epic experience. The characters do an excellent job engaging with Guests even though they can’t get up too close and personal yet.
Flying Animatronic Spiderman
Ok Insiders, this is really, really cool! You can see pictures, watch videos on social media, but at the end of the day is this is something you need to see with your own eyes! So at first, a human cast member dressed as Spiderman appears and performs a few stunts above the new WEB SLINGERS: A Spiderman Adventure ride. Then comes one of the coolest things ever…a Spiderman animatronic seamlessly swings up from the building, does the famous Spidey flip, and lands on the roof of the opposite building. The human cast member Spidey then reappears right after to greet park goers, making it all the more realistic.
Now on to the food! Avengers Campus offers up two dining options: Pym Tasting Kitchen and Shawarma Palace.
At the Pym Tasting Lab you can refuel with Ant-Man and The Wasp’s size-defying fare at this epic eatery. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and you will need to mobile order ahead of time. I tried the Not so Little Chicken Sandwich and it was Super good! The sandwich features Fried Chicken Breast, Teriyaki and Red Chili Sauces, and Pickled Cabbage Slaw on Brioche, served with crispy Potato Bites. This is a little bit messy and awkward to eat as the bun is super-sized small while chicken is super-sized giant. It has the perfect amount of spice to it and the whole meal was pretty delicious. If you love fried chicken, you can’t go wrong with this menu choice! You can view the full menu here.
At the Shawarma Palace, you can find breakfast and snack items. Her you can savor a heroic hand-held savory wrap featuring delicious fillings like fragrant chicken shawarma with garlic spread or Impossible plant-based falafel. I personally have not been able to try the food at this stand yet, but I have heard nothing but amazing things about it! You can view the full menu here.
We must not forget about dessert! Over at Terran Treats you can enjoy either a Cosmic Cream Orb (Crispy cream puff with whipped raspberry cheesecake mousse) or a Sweet Spiral Ration (Churro spirals with unique flavors). I tried the Cosmic Cream Orb and it was cosmically amazing! I can hardly wait until I’m back at Avengers Campus so I can grab another one and try the Sweet Spiral Ration!
I hope this review and guide helps for when you plan your next trip to Avengers Campus at Disney’s California Adventure!
