Theme parks across California have long awaited to reopen. That process has begun and now the tier system implemented last fall is about to come to an end.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has encouraged his four tiered blueprint for many months, in the hopes of slowing the spread of Covid-19. This plan has been met with both praise and backlash. Companies across the state longing to open, including theme parks, have continued to push for a reopening. And finally were able to start doing so recently! Now the tides have changed and the Governor has decided that it is time to abandon the tier system and begin reopening the economy in the state of California.
Starting June 15th the economy will begin it’s reopening and be fully reopened if TWO Conditions are met.
- If vaccine supply is sufficient for Californians 16 years and older who wish to be inoculated.
- If hospitalization rates are stable and low.
“We can now begin planning for our lives post-pandemic,” says Newsom, on moving away from Tier system this Tuesday.
Here’s what we can expect to start happening come June 15th:
- Most capacity limits will be lifted with testing or vaccine verification requirements for any larger scale events -like conventions.
- Most everyday activities will be admitted, but common sense health and safety measures like masks and vaccinations will be strongly encouraged.
The Governor’s office implies that advanced notice ideally gives both businesses to prepare and those wishing to get vaccinated enough time to do so. The hope is that enough people will be vaccinated by mid -June so that the state can get back to a semi -pre pandemic normal.
“With more than 20 million vaccines administered across the state, it is time to turn the page on our tier system and begin looking to fully reopen California’s economy. . . We can now begin planning for our lives post-pandemic. We will need to remain vigilant, and continue the practices that got us here – wearing masks and getting vaccinated – but the light at the end of this tunnel has never been brighter.” – Governor Newsom
While the State of California is seeing all of these recent updates to the disposal of the tier system and a new plan in place, it is also reassuring that theme parks across the state have made their plans as well for reopening. One thing I think we all can agree on is that California needed some good news, and I think this is a pretty big light at the end of the tunnel for them.
