Variety has posted an exclusive story about Disney and Marvel creating various series for the upcoming Disney Play streaming service.
The entertainment giant is in early development on an ambitious plan for a number of limited series centered on popular characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. These series will likely include shows centered on Loki and the Scarlet Witch, along with other beloved superheroes who have yet to appear in their own standalone movies.
The actors playing Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olson) would be portraying their characters in their respective series.
The actors who portrayed these heroes and villains in the Avengers films and their spin-offs, such as Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen, are expected to play them in the streaming shows.
Each series will probably be 6-8 episodes each with Marvel Studios producing the shows and Kevin Feige being “hands-on” in their development.
Still very early in development, writers have not yet been attached to the project, and budgets have yet to be announced. But with so much riding on the new Disney streaming service, they will most likely be a good chunk of change.
Disney is already spending a lot of money on the upcoming Star Wars series for the streaming service. There are several shows and movies already announced for direct release on the platform.
Expect the new service to be available sometime in 2019.
Personally, I would definitely watch an MCU series about Loki.
