Disney Considering A Big Move To LAKE NONA!

Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., plan to begin a phased reopening in July, pending approval from local and state authorities. Disney is toying with the idea of developing a mixed – use community.

No, not buying back the town of Celebration, although that would be wild.

If Disney was going to pick an area to invest in, Lake Nona is the place. Lake Nona rests in a convenient location (southeast Orlando) that still feels far enough away from the parks but gives you easy access to the many attractions Central Florida has to offer. It helps that this area is slowly becoming more popular to young couples and families and a fair amount of  new restaurants and shopping centers.

The Walt Disney Co. (Based out of Burbank, CA) clearly sees opportunity here, as they have been in talks with developer Tavistock Development Co. LLC to build a residential and commercial community in Lake Nona. Which could lead to a new or secondary hub for Disney to do business. This is not the first time Disney has made a leap into developing a new community. In 1996 a town called Celebration was born…and in 2004 Disney sold it. Although they do still own and run offices for the Disney Cruise Line just on the outskirts of the community, the dream of running their own town didn’t last very long at all. But years later they also have Golden Oaks (A luxury community) and soon to be finished Flamingo Crossings (mixed -use community). Could Lake Nona be the next community project?

This conversation between Disney and Tavistock is in the very early stages, so naturally, it could fall through. We will keep an eye out for any new developments.

That’s all for now, Insiders!
