Disney Cruise Line Just Added More Sailings to Its Onboard Offer — Here’s How to Save Up to 25%

If you’ve ever been on a Disney Cruise Line vacation and thought, “I’m not ready for this vacation to end,” Disney has a pretty good solution: book your next cruise before you even leave the ship.

Disney Cruise Line has added even more sail dates to its Onboard Offer Placeholder Reservation, including eligible sailings through September 2027. Depending on the sailing you choose, you could save up to 25% on your future cruise fare.

And if you already have a Placeholder Reservation? You may now have even more options to use it.

What Is a Disney Cruise Line Placeholder Reservation?

A Placeholder Reservation is essentially a way to lock in savings on a future Disney cruise while you’re still onboard your current sailing.

While you’re enjoying your vacation, you can put down a $250 deposit per stateroom toward a future cruise. The future sailing must take place within 24 months of booking the Placeholder Reservation.

The standard offer provides 10% off the voyage fare on most eligible sailings, although some sailings now qualify for even bigger savings.

You Could Save 20% or Even 25%

Disney has added select sailings where guests can receive:

  • 20% off the voyage fare
  • 25% off the voyage fare

That’s a pretty significant difference from the standard 10% savings, particularly on a longer cruise or a higher-category stateroom.

The catch? These larger discounts are only available on select sailings, and blockout dates apply.

So if you’ve been holding onto a Placeholder Reservation, it’s worth checking the newly expanded list of eligible sailings before assuming your original plans are your only options.

Already Have a Placeholder Reservation? Check Again.

This is probably the part current Placeholder Reservation holders will want to pay attention to. If your existing reservation becomes eligible for a higher discount, the increased discount will be automatically applied. You don’t need to cancel and rebook just to chase the higher discount. If you’ve already paid for your cruise in full, Disney says the difference will be refunded to your original form of payment.

Beginning September 22, affected guests will receive a SeaMail if their reservation discount has increased. In other words: if you’ve already booked your future cruise using a Placeholder Reservation, don’t assume the deal you originally received is still the deal you’re getting.

There’s Also a Concierge Opportunity

There’s another option that could be particularly interesting for guests who want to upgrade their Disney Cruise Line experience!

Eligible Placeholder Reservations can be used to book select Concierge Staterooms with a 10% discount on voyage fare for categories 02B and lower. There are additional blockout dates for Concierge, and availability is limited, so this isn’t something to count on for every sailing. But if you’ve been considering Concierge, it’s absolutely worth asking about when planning your next cruise.

Here’s the Part You Need to Know Before You Book

The savings sound great, but there are some important rules attached to the offer.

Your Placeholder Reservation:

Requires a $250 deposit per stateroom.

One future cruise booking is allowed per household, for a maximum of two staterooms.

The future cruise must sail within 24 months of the date you book the Placeholder Reservation.

At least one guest from the original sailing party must sail in one of the staterooms on the future cruise.

And the discount applies to the voyage fare only. Taxes, fees, and port expenses are not included in the discount.

There are also blockout dates and availability restrictions.

Most importantly, the offer cannot be combined with other promotions or discounts, including the Guaranteed Staterooms with Restrictions offer.

What Happens If You Change Your Mind?

Here’s some good news: the $250 deposit is fully refundable if you cancel the Placeholder Reservation or don’t select a future cruise within the required timeframe.

However, once you convert the Placeholder Reservation into a confirmed cruise reservation, things change. You can’t turn it back into a Placeholder Reservation, and standard cancellation policies apply.

And if you change your confirmed reservation to a sailing that isn’t eligible for the Onboard Offer, the discount goes away, and the prevailing rate quoted by Disney Cruise Line applies.

That’s why it’s important to look at the specific sailing and stateroom category before making changes.

Should You Book a Placeholder Reservation on Your Next Disney Cruise?

This is where a little planning can make a big difference. If you’re already fairly certain you’ll take another Disney cruise within the next two years, a Placeholder Reservation can give you an opportunity to lock in a future booking discount while you’re onboard.

But don’t book one simply because “10% off sounds good.”

The real value comes from knowing which sailings qualify for the larger discounts, understanding the blockout dates, and having a realistic idea of when you’ll cruise again. For example, a 10% discount on one sailing may look attractive until you discover that another eligible itinerary offers 20% or 25% off. That’s why having someone who knows the Disney Cruise Line offer rules can be extremely helpful when you’re deciding how and when to use your Placeholder Reservation.

And There’s a Bigger Strategy Here…

If you’re sailing with Disney Cruise Line soon, don’t wait until you get home to start thinking about your next cruise. The best time to understand your Placeholder Reservation options is before you’re onboard. That way, when you’re relaxing on the ship and considering your next Disney cruise, you’ll already know what questions to ask and what to look for.

And if you already have a Placeholder Reservation sitting in your account, this new expansion is a good reason to take another look at your options. More eligible sailings means more opportunities to put that reservation to work.

Want help figuring out which Disney Cruise Line sailings may make sense for your Placeholder Reservation?

That’s exactly what a Disney travel advisor can help with. We can look at the eligible sailings, compare itineraries and stateroom options, and help you determine how to make the most of the offer rather than simply booking the first available cruise.
