Scarlett Johansson is taking on a new Disney project after playing Natasha Romanoff in Black Widow for the Marvel films! Collider reported today that Johansson will now star in and produce a movie based on the Disney World ride, Tower of Terror!
Two-time Oscar nominee Scarlett Johansson will produce Disney’s Tower of Terror movie, which will be developed as a starring vehicle for the studio’s Black Widow actress, Collider has exclusively learned.
Johansson will produce via her company These Pictures alongside Jonathan Lia, and though there’s no director formally attached yet, Disney will aim high, according to sources — especially since Johansson is coming off of dual Oscar nominations for her stellar work in Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit in addition to her high-profile turn in Marvel’s Black Widow.
They reported that Toy Story 4 director and Inside Out scribe Josh Cooley are currently writing the script. No plot details have been released yet but I am so excited for this movie as it’s one of my favorite rides at Hollywood Studios at Disney World (and when it was at California Adventure in Anaheim, California)!
The high-thrill ride features a creepy narrator who sounds like The Twilight Zone host Rod Serling. If you didn’t know before, the ride was previously turned into a 1997 TV movie starring Steve Guttenberg and Kirsten Dunst (unfortunately not available on Disney+ just yet).
According to Collider, “a new theatrical feature has been in development since 2015, when John August was tapped to write a treatment about five people in a posh hotel who take an elevator and disappear after it’s hit by lightning.”
We can hardly wait to learn more details on this new Disney film based on one of our favorite rides!
How excited are you for the new Tower of Terror movie starring Scarlett Johansson?!
