Though Disneyland and Disney California Adventure have been closed since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic, Workers United Local 50 have kept their services open and continue to provide aid to to Disney Cast Members.
On Saturday, September 12th, beginning at 9 a.m., Local 50 is hosting a pop-up food bank. Cast Members must show their Disney Cast ID upon arrival, and they will be provided with food. You can check out the official event page on Facebook here.
Local 50 pop up food bank will be on Saturday Sept. 12th from 9am to 1pm. Please bring your cast i.d. for curbside pickup. We will have enough food for 150 households, so be here early. First come first serve. Any questions call us at 714-502-0220.
Workers United Local 50 is one union that represents a large percentage of unionized Cast Members at Disneyland Resort. Below is more information about Local 50, courtesy of the official description on their Facebook page:
At Local 50, we help create magic for the guests of Disneyland Resort through the food and drink we prepare and the high quality of service we deliver. We’re in the business of making people happy. That’s why we strive to ensure the well-being of our cast members and their families through strong contracts that provide respect and dignity on the job and a measure of economic security. After all, it’s easier to make others happy when our cast members are also happy.
This is not the only food bank that Unions have hosted. In addition to Local 50, other unions representing Disney CMs across the country have hosted food banks in order to provide aid to those Disney Cast Members who remain furloughed. There is also a food pantry for Cast Members at Walt Disney World Resort that you can read more about here.
