Dole Whip is a Disney favorite!
Dole Whip is a Disney Favorite!

Ever wanted to recreate some of those delicious dishes and treats you ate while on property at Walt Disney World? Sometimes waiting for your next trip any amount of days is just too long to go without a Dole Whip!

What is Dole Whip?

Also known as Dole Soft Serve, this is a frozen dessert created by the Dole Food Company and was introduced to the Disney parks when Dole became the official sponsor of Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room (a tropical-themed attraction inside the Adventureland area of Disneyland and Walt Disney World) in 1986. Disney guests LIVE for this treat – it’s refreshing for a hot day in the parks and meets several special diets criteria, so many people can enjoy it. Did we mention it is very allergy friendly and most notably dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan?

In Walt Disney World, you can find Dole Whip at:

  • Aloha Isle in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom
  • Refreshment Port near the Canada Pavilion right as you enter World Showcase in Epcot
  • Pineapple Promenade during Epcot’s International Flower & Garden Festival
  • Tamu Tamu Refreshments in Africa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
  • Pineapple Lanai at Disney’s Polynesian Resort

Over the last few years, Disney guests have even been gifted with several other spin-off variations from the original pineapple dessert including alcoholic floats, mimosas and margaritas, raspberry, lemon, lime and mango versions, swirls (dual-flavors), and upside-down cakes! Dole Whip’s fan-base has only grown since the release of these treats. So much so, that now you can find it’s own themed Ears, hats, shirts, jackets, and pins, among many other merchandise items located in Disney Parks shops. OK yes, admittedly, I have a Dole Whip hat!

As a Dietitian, I can’t say no to recipes that are tasty AND easy. If you’re a Dole Whip die-hard like myself, try my recipe below. Let me know if it taste’s like the real thing! For me- it does just the trick!

DIY Disney Dole Whip

(Makes 3 servings)

  • 2 cups frozen pineapple
  • 1/4 cup milk of choice (can be low fat cow’s milk, original soy milk, or unsweetened coconut or almond milk)
  • 1/16 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • Juice of 1 lemon

  1. Place all ingredients into blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Scoop out with an ice cream scoop, or to get that “fresh from the Dole Whip machine look” squeeze through a pastry or plastic bag with an edge cut off.

Tip: Depending on the blender you use at home, more liquid than called for above may be needed to blend well. If this is the case, allow time to freeze before serving. For soft-serve that holds its shape longer, freeze the swirled dole whip at 15-20 minutes before serving.
