Right now there are so many amazing shows and movies on Disney+. It’s really hard not to lose track.
I don’t know about other households, but in our house, my husband and I will settle in once a week and watch 2-3 Disney+ originals. Here are our current vibes!
BIG SHOT

No one should sleep on this show. We originally started watching because my Basketball loving husband couldn’t resist his curiosity. Let me say, I was not to into watching the first episode…I quickly changed my mind. This show is exactly what the world needs, a feel good yet real look at some tough to swallow situations. Disney sometimes has a habit of being too bright and shiny and not enough grit – but some of the storylines in this show has me actually crying during certain episodes.

Marvyn Korn (John Stamos) Is a hot tempered basketball coach recently fired from his pro-ball career. He ends up in an elite girls private high school, coaching a seemingly entitled and spoiled group of athletes. We soon find out that each of these girls honestly have hearts of gold and an assortment of issues and worries they deal with throughout the show and their coach learns more about himself and who he wants to be.

The script and storylines can be a bit serious for a “Disney” show – so I would suggest proof watching an episode to see if your kids would be ok with it! But I would really encourage you to try it out.
MIGHTY DUCKS: GAME CHANGERS
want to preface this with, I remember the Mighty Ducks film very well when it came out – and I honestly didn’t enjoy it. I wasn’t really into sports growing up and so the characters and story honestly didn’t vibe with me. But, this show is a GEM. I did not expect to like it – as it has Lauren Graham playing a mom turned coach. I may be the only person on the planet who really doesn’t enjoy her as an actress. Surprisingly I really enjoy her performance and the chemistry between her and Emilio Estevez. It’s a bit strange to see them in a show together, at first I couldn’t picture it. But as this season roles on – I’m honestly so pleased.

The real stars of this show? The kids! The characters are funny, likable and quick witted making for some excellent one liners and side stories! Now I’m not trying to play favorites here but Maxwell Simkins who plays Nick – the underdog and best friend of, well…everyone. He is a rising star. He has so many great moments in this show and I find myself laughing quite loudly during each episode.

More than that, there are some really wonderful lessons and heartwarming side plots. I don’t want to spoil any of it, as I just really want you to watch this show.
HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL: THE MUSICAL: THE SERIES -S2

I am pretty sure you saw this coming, you probably learned by now I am a sucker for talented kids and fun yet meaningful content.

I LOVED the High School Musical franchise. As a young adult. At the time, I was working for Disney in entertainment, so it was literally everywhere. But, I loved it non the less. Mostly because growing up I was most certainly a theatre kid. The one thing missing from those films was the realities of being a “theatre kid.” And that’s what I loved about the first season of this show. And to be honest…more so this season. In a community theatre setting – or in this case high school – there is real stuff going on at home and you gotta leave it outside and focus in on the show. The fun part about theatre is the friendships, first loves and artistic partnerships that form over time. There’s also the late night visits to a local hangout after rehearsal or auditions (for us it was Fazoli’s and AppleBees… give me ALL the chicken wings and cheese sticks…) and the cast parties where someone inevitably pulls out an instrument.

It has just enough “real” life and fantastical “high school musical” movie references to enjoy and reminisce. If you were EVER in drama in school or part of theatre growing up, I really encourage you to watch. It is a very sweet show.
IN THE END, IT’S ABOUT FAMILY TIME
Whatever shows you enjoy, having time with family or a loved one perhaps is the best part of these new and continuing shows on Disney+. It gives us a great excuse to order a pizza and stay in.
