Los Angeles County Brings Back Indoor Face Mask Mandate As COVID Cases Spike Once Again

Source: People

And just when things were returning back to some sense of normalcy, LA County in California is back to having to wear face coverings indoor. ABC 7 News reports:

Citing continued increases in transmission of COVID-19, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is re-implementing a mandate requiring residents to wear masks while indoors, regardless of their vaccination status.

The county previously only recommended mask-wearing indoors. The new mandate will take effect at 11:59 p.m. Saturday, officials announced.

This announcement will be disappointing to many as it comes exactly one month after California dropped its statewide mask mandate for vaccinated people. Health officials have stated that some exceptions will apply although they have not yet disclosed details on what the exceptions are.

Dr. Muntu Davis, the L.A. County Health Officer, has stated that LA County is “not where we need to be” in terms of vaccinations against the virus, as evidenced by seven straight days of new cases numbers that topped 1,000. On Thursday, the county reported 1,537 new infections, the highest number since early March (per ABC 7 News).

Los Angeles is home Universal Studios Hollywood and we expect to hear an announcement soon that they will be implementing the face mask mandate indoors as well (they are only strongly suggesting it currently). Their website currently states:

The State of California strongly recommends that when you visit Universal Studios Hollywood you be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, obtain a negative COVID-19 test result prior to visiting, or wear a face covering. Guests who are not fully vaccinated should wear a face covering during their visit. We encourage all guests to wear face coverings indoors. Exposure to COVID-19 is an inherent risk in any public location where people are present; we cannot guarantee you will not be exposed during your visit.

While this may be discouraging news, we are hopeful that this won’t last for long and that the County will be able to continue moving forward in a positive direction very soon!
