The Main Street Electrical Parade isn’t “glowing away” in June after all. According to the Disney Parks Blog, the venerable parade will be extending its stay on the West Coast until August 20, 2017.
The Main Street Electrical Parade began in Disneyland in 1972. It’s been passed from park to park over the years, having extended runs not only in Disneyland but also Disney California Adventure, and most recently Walt Disney World.
Here’s a video of the Main Street Electrical Parade in Walt Disney World last September.
What will replace the Main Street Electrical Parade?
The Main Street Electrical Parade left Walt Disney World in October 2016. There’s been no sign of a replacement, much to the dismay of many guests who were expecting to see it in Orlando.
Disneyland had a short run of Paint the Night, a modernized version of the classic parade that originated in Hong Kong Disneyland. Many insiders speculated that Paint the Night would make its way to Walt Disney World while the Main Street Electrical Parade completed its run in California.
Unfortunately, that has not been the case and Walt Disney World is currently without a nighttime parade.
It’s possible that this run is the farewell tour, and that Disney will be debuting a new new nighttime parade (or two) on both coasts. Or maybe Disney is doing away with nighttime parades altogether, but I sincerely hope that is not the case!
