Yesterday it was confirmed by cast members that Mickey Mouse will no longer speak as part of the Mickey Mouse Town Square Theater Meet and Greet. Guests can still meet with Mickey but he will not speak he’s “resting his voice.”
There have been no official announcements, that I know of, about this or the cause of this. A lot of speculation has been that is saves money, or it makes it more consistent with all the other costumed Mickey’s around the Walt Disney World parks.
I wondered if it was because of all the people using the talking Mickey for videos about adoption, engagements, pregnancy, gender reveals, etc. But other non-speaking characters, in different locations have helped out with these as well. So maybe not. It just seemed like the talking Mickey was the one people seemed to go for with “props” and things. Or if the talking Mickey takes a lot longer and isn’t efficient as a quick hugs and signatures.
Whatever the reason Mickey no longer speaks and cast members can not confirm if this is a temporary or permanent silencing.
