As the sun sets on the very popular Cirque du Soleil show La Nouba, Disney fans have been wondering if a new show would take its place or if Cirque du Soleil was pulling out of Disney Springs entirely.

Now we finally have an answer. A new show is in development, and will reportedly be a collaboration between Cirque du Soleil and Disney using classic Disney animated characters.

From the Disney Parks Blog…

This original show will be created by Cirque du Soleil and will pay homage to Disney’s rich history of animation, with a vivid story told in a way that only Cirque du Soleil can deliver. Daniel Lamarre, President and CEO of Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, elaborated, sharing “We are incredibly inspired by Disney’s immense creative universe. We are convinced that bringing Disney’s magic to life on stage will touch audiences and bring them back to their childhood.”

La Nouba premiered in 1998, and is long overdue for a refresh. This is a smart move for Cirque du Soleil. People visit Walt Disney World for a Disney experience, and while La Nouba was an excellent show, it wasn’t very “Disney.”

I've loved Disney as long as I can remember. As a former newspaper editor, web developer, and Disney comics freelancer, I'm able to combine that experience into writing about Disney online. I'm also the co-host of a Disney fan podcast called 'Pirates & Princesses.' Opinions mine.
