It’s a Mario! The opening date for the first U.S. Super Nintendo World is drawing closer, and we now have more details on one of the new rides! Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, which will be the signature ride for its forthcoming all-new immersive land. Like the Super Nintendo park in Japan, Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood will feature Bowser’s Castle, the dungeon of which will house this new and incredibly immersive attraction.
You’ve never experienced Mario Kart like this! Ride through iconic courses, throw shells, and collect coins to beat Team Bowser when #SuperNintendoWorld opens at Universal Studios Hollywood in early 2023. https://t.co/293xXB5RDG pic.twitter.com/Ry2q3GhbcO

As stated in Universal’s Twitter announcement above, visitors will be able to steer through courses underwater and in the clouds to compete for the Golden Cup while collecting coins to defeat Team Bowser and win. Along the way, there are piranha plants, sewage pipes, and, of course, Bowser (our favorite villain in the world of Mario!). There are a variety of potential outcomes depending on how each team plays, and other vital elements are that the ride is repeatable. Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge is similar to the ride in Japan, Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge. Each kart carries four team members who race another team on a dual-track course while wearing head-mounted augmented reality goggles. We already anticipate that this will be a hit ride once it opens, and it will be a one-of-a-kind experience for everyone of all ages!
According to Deadline, “The press is already calling it ‘one of the world’s largest, most interactive rides’ and claim that Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge ‘seamlessly fuses augmented reality with projection mapping technology and actual set pieces… to debut a ride that’s unparalleled anywhere within the theme park industry.'” Power-Up Bands will be a part of the park experience, as well, and are integrated into the Bowser’s Challenge attraction. They make be extremely similar, if not the same, to the Power Up bands offered at the Japan Park.
