Tiana’s Palace officially opened a few weeks ago on September 7, and I finally got to try it for the first time this past weekend! This restaurant replaced the French Market Restaurant and was reimagined as Tiana’s Palace from the animated Disney movie “Princess and the Frog.” This restaurant was the perfect reimagining of the quick-service restaurant, as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will be opening next year sometime in 2024. As Disney does best, the restaurant’s ambiance was done to perfection, and the new menu is filled with cajun delights!
During the day, a Jazz band plays live on the outside patio for guests to enjoy while they are dining. While a lot of seating is available on the patio, this new restaurant is extremely popular right now, so finding a seat can be a bit challenging. The patio area is semi-covered, but if it is a rainy day, you may want to find seating elsewhere (Rancho del Zocalo is a great option nearby that offers covered seating!). To order, you can hop in line or mobile order on the Disneyland app. I highly encourage mobile ordering as the regular line has been consistently very long since the restaurant opened. The trick with mobile ordering right now is that you must do it earlier in the day, as time slots are being filled up quickly! I ordered my dinner when I was still at home, around 8:30 a.m. By the time I got to the park in the late afternoon, no mobile order times were available for the rest of the day!
And now, back to the theming! If you are in the regular line, you can go inside the restaurant and check out all the fun decor on the walls and shelves! If you mobile ordered, your line won’t go inside, but you can always walk in through the side door from the patio and take a look around. There is the most precious picture of Tiana and her dad, Tiana’s recipe cards, the menu, Louie’s band instruments, a frog bell, Tiana’s cookware, and so much more! The detail in the actual architecture, both on the interior and exterior, is just stunning!
Now, on to the main event, the food! Being one person, I obviously couldn’t try everything on the menu, but as I try more things, I will come in and update this review. For dinner, I had the Shrimp and Grits with a side of cornbread and the House-filled Beignet. The Shrimp and Grits are so tasty, and it’s the best I’ve probably ever had! It had a hint of a kick but nothing to scare off anyone who doesn’t like spice. The grits were cheesy and had the perfect texture; they give a lot of shrimp, but in my opinion, they could have put in just a few more because there are a ton of grits!
The cornbread was just ok. You definitely need to put some butter on it, but I think it would be even better if they also offered a side of honey.
As for the House-filled Beignet, I was honestly a bit disappointed by this. I am a HUGE fan of the Mickey Beignets next door at the Mint Julep Bar. In my opinion, these beignets did not live up to those powdered, sugary pieces of goodness (lol!). They were hollow inside, and while the lemon filling was tasty, the dessert as a whole did not do it for me. I think they are good to try once so you can taste it for yourself; however, after the first try, I would head over to Mint Julep next door to get your beignet fix!
Updated Review 1/3/24
I was able to try another food item at Tiana’s Palace, and I, of course, have to share the review here! During a recent trip to Disneyland, I stopped by this new quick-service spot again for dinner, and this time, I tried the Muffuletta Sandwich. I tried one of these delicious sandwiches when I went to New Orleans a few years back, so I definitely had high expectations. This is probably one of my new favorite items here! The Italian bread is moist and so flavorful; the sandwich is stuffed with delectable Italian meats, and the Olive Tapenade just makes this sandwich chef’s kiss! I was, however, a bit disappointed to find that it only comes in a half-sandwich portion size, as I could have eaten a full sandwich. It is, however, served with a side of Red Beans and rice and House-made pickles. Overall, I definitely think this is one of their top dishes!
Overall, I think the quick-service dining spot is a winner. Tiana’s Palace is a great dining addition to the park, and there seems to be something for everyone to enjoy!
