Disneyland held its very first EVER Disneyland After Dark: Princess Nite last night, March 7. I’ve only ever been to one Disneyland After Dark event, and it was last year’s Star Wars Nite. I had an amazing experience then, so I was really looking forward to this one. The event guide was posted in advance, and I was surprised to see that there would be no firework show, which is a bit of a bummer because I think they could’ve made an amazing show with the Disney Princess theme! You can see the full event guide here if you plan on attending the sold-out event tomorrow night, March 9, or if you are just interested in the details.
I have compiled a list of tips and reviews of some specialty food and treat items I was able to try. Let’s waltz right into it!
Mobile Ordering Tip: The event starts at 9:00 pm, but guests can enter the park at 6:00 pm with these special event tickets. I highly recommend that you mobile order what you can early on in the day because if you wait until the event starts, pick-up times won’t be available until late. I started mobile ordering some treats first thing in the morning. If your plans change throughout the evening, you can always pop into the app, go to your mobile orders, and change your pick-up time or cancel the order. Better to plan ahead than wait in long lines or miss out!
Dining Tip: The event only runs for 4 hours, from 9:00 pm to 1:00 am. It’s such a short amount of time with so much to do and so much to see. You definitely don’t want your precious time to be wasted standing in lines for food or sitting down and eating a meal. I recommend eating a meal and trying what treats you can before the event even starts! For example, I mobile ordered a treat first thing in the morning from Jolly Holiday and was able to snag an 8:30 pm window pick-up time. I ate my treat, and then mobile ordering opened up at Red Rose Taverne at that time, so I picked up my dinner right after picking up my treat. I was able to eat special event food for dinner and enjoy a special event treat all before 9:00 pm when the event started!
I also mobile ordered another treat for later in the evening, earlier in the morning as well, as 1 am is very late, and I already knew I was going to need some sugar as a pick-me-up around 10:30 pm when I start to get tired for the night (LOL!).
Dining Review: I tried a couple of different specialty items during the event. I went to Red Rose Taverne for dinner and tried the Escargot Flatbread (adventurous, I know!) and the Sparkling Strawberry Tea. The Flatbread was just ok; the toppings were pretty flavorful and tasty, but as a whole, with there being no marinara sauce, it wasn’t too spectacular. The Strawberry Tea was really good, although it was more sugary than refreshing. The shimmery sparkle dust and the glow cube are pretty cool, though!
The first treat I tried was the Princess Trifle from Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe (features white chocolate mousse and mixed berry compote with vanilla cake). This had a lot of different textures going on and was super flavorful, but the chocolate fiend in me wishes there had been some chocolate crunches in there. Nonetheless, it was pretty good and worth the try!
The last treat I tried was the Cotton Candy-Cream Cheese Pretzel from Refreshment Corner. I’ve had a thing for Disneyland’s specialty cream cheese pretzels this past year. This one was obviously super sweet, and I loved the frosting and the little crunch pieces. It’s not my favorite specialty pretzel (their Disney100 Violet Pretzel is AMAZING), but this is definitely worth a try!

Meet and Greets: Since there’s no firework show, the main exciting thing to do during Princess Nite is the meet and greets with the princesses. So many out are NOT available year-round, which is pretty neat! I will be honest here though, the lines for meet and greets are LONG! I was only able to take a picture with one princess, Snow White, and I probably waited well over an hour. While walking around, I heard Cast Members telling guests that lines for characters were running anywhere from 1-3 hours long! Disney Princesses that are out for this event include Snow White, Aurora, Belle, Ariel, Cinderella, Elena of Avalon, Kida of Atlantis, Pocahontas, Jasmine, Moana, Princess Leia, Raya, Sofia the First, Merida, and Mulan.
Entertainment: I can’t say this enough, but try, try, try, to plan your night out in advance! Pick a couple of characters you want to take pictures with and look at showtimes and what entertainment is taking place around the park.
- A Cavalcade featuring Giselle from “Enchanted” goes down Main Street twice per hour, starting at 9:15 pm.
- There’s a Royal Arrival of Princess Minne and Daisy at the Main Street train station and they come out 30 minutes per hour.
- A Jazz Band plays every hour on the Cafe Orlean patio
- Soaring Melodies Under the Stars takes place at Tom Sawyer’s Island during the night (the later the show, the less crowded!)
- Share a trait and leave your mark on the night over by Finding Nemo’s Submarine Voyage
- Show off your archery skills and meet Merida over by Troubador Taverne
- Join Vanellope at a dance party in Tomorrowland

As you can see, there is just so much to do and so much to see in four hours! Realistically, if you want to take pictures with more than 1-2 Princesses, it’s going to be a challenge to do anything else. If you want to see everything, pick 1-2 princesses to do a meet and greet with, eat before the event starts, and mobile order as far ahead in the day as you can, try to pick times to see the cavalcade, shows, dance party, etc. You don’t need to plan your night up to every minute of the night, but if you have a plan ahead of time, you will have an easier time navigating the evening and be able to enjoy more!
