Could a new Mickey Mouse attraction be coming to Disneyland?

It’s being rumored that Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway — a ride that is coming soon to Disney’s Hollywood Studios — is also headed for Disneyland’s Toontown.

WDW News Today is reporting on the rumor, and they seem to think there’s a good chance that Disney will make an official announcement in November to coincide with Mickey’s 90th Birthday.

Disney is expected to make the announcement around Mickey and Minnie’s 90th birthdays on November 18th, specifically at the D23 Destination D event in Florida. The event already has a scheduled presentation about the new ride featuring Disney Imagineers, and either that presentation or the opening keynote by Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek will be the venue for the reveal.

Well, I guess we already revealed it, but at least officially it will happen during one of those events.

This does make complete sense, as it would be an odd choice for Disney to let Walt Disney World have the first Mickey Mouse attraction, while neglecting to bring Mickey “home” to Walt’s original park.

Disney also like to kill two (or more) birds with one stone these days by cloning attractions at parks around the world. It helps maximize the return on R&D expenses.

Toontown is a natural home for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, which will immerse Guests into Mickey’s cartoon world.

But for those of you worried about losing an older beloved attraction to make room for Mickey, fear not. The world is that the show building would sit largely behind Toontown, and not come at the expense of Gadget’s Go Coaster or Roger Rabbit.

So far, WDW News Today seems to be the only source reporting on the rumor. However, I think there’s a very good chance of this happening for reasons I mentioned above.

What do you think? Are you excited as the prospect of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway coming to Disneyland, or do you think it should remain WDW exclusive?

(Or do you just want The Great Movie Ride back?)

I've loved Disney as long as I can remember. As a former newspaper editor, web developer, and Disney comics freelancer, I'm able to combine that experience into writing about Disney online. I'm also the co-host of a Disney fan podcast called 'Pirates & Princesses.' Opinions mine.
