When Harrison Ford announced on the Ellen Show that there would be a 5th movie in the Indiana Jones franchise, fans all over rejoiced. A huge part of the success of its movies is the director, Steven Spielberg. We all assumed that if Harrison Ford was coming back, Steven Spielberg would be right by his side. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Just yesterday, the legendary director made an announcement that he was stepping aside and will not be the Director for the franchise’s 5th film.
According to Variety, Steven Spielberg is in talks to let Ford v Ferrari filmmaker, James Mangold direct the next Indiana Jones.
This is the first time Spielberg will have allowed another director to take the reins in the franchise’s 39-year history. This wasn’t a forced decision. A source told Variety the decision to step down was entirely Spielberg’s and he wasn’t pressured or forced to do so.
A lot of Indiana Fans have voiced their concerns. If history’s taught us one thing, it’s that a director can make or break the film. When your dealing with a popular franchise like Indiana Jones, it needs to be handled with care. Am I right, Colin Trevorrow? Fans can take comfort in knowing that Spielberg is hand picking the next director, and at least we still have Harrison Ford.
