The Mandalorian: More Details Revealed For Upcoming Star Wars Live-Action Series

Director John Favreau is trickling out more details regarding The Mandalorian, the new live-action Star Wars series set to debut on Disney’s upcoming streaming service.

Here is an image of what is presumably the titular character as posted on Favreau’s Instagram this weekend.

For those who aren’t sure what a “Mandalorian” is, think Boba Fett or Jango Fett.

The Mandalorians are a fierce group of warriors from that originated on the planet Mandalore. Mandalorian culture was explored in various Star Wars Expanded Universe products, as well as the animated series Clone Wars and Rebels.

But for the first time we’ll see other Mandalorians in live-action apart from the Fetts.

According to an Instagram post that predates the teaser image, The Mandalorian series will take place between Star Wars Episode VI and VII.

According to the official Star Wars site, The Mandalorian will feature some heavy-hitting directors including fan favorites Dave Filoni (Clone Wars) and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).

Here’s the official release…

Production on the first Star Wars live-action streaming series has begun! After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Warsuniverse. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic. The series will be written and executive produced by Emmy-nominated producer and actor Jon Favreau, as previously announced, with Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone WarsStar Wars Rebels) directing the first episode. Additional episodic directors include Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok). It will be executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist will serve as co-executive producer.

There’s no word yet on when The Mandalorian will debut. Disney’s streaming service is scheduled to launch by the end of 2019.
