I have only been on safari once in my life, and it was one of the most unforgettable experiences. It wasn’t in Africa, but it was at Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World. I took a ride on Kilimanjaro Safari, where you set off in an open-air vehicle for a guided tour of an African savanna and spot live animals roaming free. I can’t even begin to describe how awestruck I was because I didn’t know what to expect my first time. It’s been on my bucket list for a long time to go on an African Safari in Africa, but it may be a while before I get to set off on an adventure like that, and this attraction really scratched the safari itch.
Here is an official description of the Kilimanjaro Safari from Walt Disney World:
Explore the Harambe Wildlife Reserve, home to 34 species living in 110 acres of picturesque open plains, shady forest landscapes, and rocky wetlands. Your rugged safari vehicle is driven by an expert guide, who helps point out animals and shares fascinating wildlife facts during this extraordinary 18-minute expedition.
On this safari, you will encounter hippopotamus, regal lions, giraffes, baboons, rhinos, cheetahs, crocodiles, elephants, hyenas, zebras, and so many more!
Want a more vast, more up-close experience? For $199 per person (theme park admission is required and is not part of this price), you can reserve a spot for the Wild Africa Trek, where you can embark on a privately-guided, VIP expedition full of close encounters with exotic African wildlife!

On this tour, you will walk along a grassland path, cross a rope bridge and ride in a rugged safari vehicle over an open savanna. In the safari vehicle, you will have the chance to view African creatures, including towering giraffes, mighty rhinos, hippos, and crocodiles. At the same time, your knowledgeable guide will share pertinent information with you about the animals you’re seeing. They will also share details about Animal Kingdom’s dedication to animal conservation.
Going on a safari like this, you will work up a mighty appetite. The Wild Africa Trek includes African-inspired snacks, and here are some of the things you could see on the menu:
- Chicken curry salad
- Sun-dried tomato hummus and mini pita
- Marinated tandoori shrimp
- Smoked salmon roulade with dill
- Air-dried beef and prosciutto
- Fresh fruit marinated in mint and ginger
