“But a new day brings new opportunities. And I was ready to make a statement.”
-Cruella de Vil
Cruella does indeed make bold fashion statements, especially in the new upcoming live-action Disney film, Cruella, premiering on May 29! Emma Stone is taking on the iconic role of one of our favorite villains, Cruella de Vil, and she is bringing forth a whole new side of Cruella we haven’t seen yet. The film explores the origins of Cruella de Vil before 101 Dalmations, and so far we are loving her London punk fashion sense.
Apparently the real world is loving it too because shopDisney is releasing a fierce fashion line, and now MAC cosmetics is releasing a range inspired by de Vil’s infamous punk-era beauty look! According to Grazia Magazine, “The collection, which includes an eyeshadow palette and lipsticks, is said to embody the “new wave” period of Britain in the 70s and 80s, where the film takes place.”
MAC’s director of makeup artistry Terry Barber said in a statement, “With there being such a huge trend for recycling the more niche counterculture moments of previous decades, this collection feels like MAC returning to a celebration of the kind of DIY styling and brave transformation that originally made it such a maverick brand.”
According Grazia Magazine, “Barber describes the capsule range as ‘high glam with plenty of attitude, brought to a new generation’. MAC Cosmetics worked closely with on-set makeup artist Nadia Stacey to create a range that was true to Emma Stone’s looks in the film. Stacey wanted to ensure that Cruella’s makeup was truly reflective of the time. ‘A girl growing up in London in the ’70s, and a friend of punks, is coming up with that look,’ she explained.”
Let’s take a closer look at some of the products in the new Cruella MAC collection!
A magnetic two-piece eye palette packed with a wondrous wave of eight statement shades inspired by the most iconic looks of Disney’s Cruella. ($45)
The primary part of Cruella’s makeup is the dark, exaggerated eye makeup. “A dark pencil, a dark pewter eyeshadow and white eyeshadow. That’s the whole basis of the eye makeup,” Stacey said. “The punk thing is about pulling [the eyeliner] straight out. It’s all blended out straight out, and then you want lashes.”
A liquid lipstick that provides a rebellious rush of disney’s cruella-inspired colour in a velvety, mattest-matte finish. Available in “Glamarchy Blood Red,” “Mayhemmed Red,” and “Queen of Mean.” ($25)
A long-lasting, dual-ended eye liner featuring creamy, dense colour that glides smoothly across lids. ($26)
A limited-edition pair of backstage-favourite lashes featuring wispy, full volume for a runway-ready look.
A cruella-inspired blush duo that provides fantastic colour with ease and consistency. ($31)
