It’s been rumored for awhile now that The Void might be offering some new hyper-reality experiences, including a Wreck It Ralph experience. It has now been confirmed.
What is The Void?
For those unfamiliar, The Void is and entertainment company that utilizes sensory technology to create a virtual-augmented, hyper-reality experience. Even using elements like temperature and wind to create a realistic and immersive experience. It isn’t like the at home VR experiences people have become accustomed to. This is a fully immersive and sensory experience, utilizing four of the five senses, and engaging the participant in a more realistic way.
Currently The Void, located at Disney Springs and the Downtown Disney District, as well at 9 other locations in the United States, Canada, and United Arab Emirates, has been doing a Star Wars themed experience called Secrets of the Empire. Now they have partnered with ILMxLab, Lucasfilm’s immersive entertainment arm, to create five new experiences based on material from Walt Disney Animation and Marvel Studios.
The first new experience will debut this fall based on Ralph Breaks the Internet. This will be followed by one based on one of the upcoming Marvel titles (Captain Marvel, Spiderman: Far From Home, or Avengers 4) sometime in 2019. There will be another one based on Frozen 2, that comes out next November.
What makes The Void so great is that it allows fans to step into the worlds they love. Curtis Hickman, founder of The Void and CCO, elaborated on this:
Very fundamentally we ask ourselves what are places people have always wanted to step into and be a part of, but were never possible before. Disney and Marvel have a lot of worlds that people want to step into that work well with our technology. As the medium grows and is understood and the demand continues to expand, the platform itself is going to expand.
The Void, itself will be expanding from 11 locations to 17 and hopefully they will continue to grow.
I’m really looking forward to checking these out!
Currently you can experience The Void at both Disney Resorts. In Downtown Disney District at Disneyland and at Disney Springs in Walt Disney World.
