New Details Revealed for ‘Toy Story Land’ in Walt Disney World

With only 100 days to go until launch, more details have been revealed about Toy Story Land in Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios.

Walt Disney World hosted a media event yesterday in which Ryan Wineinger, a Creative Director at Walt Disney Imagineering, gave participants an overview of the anticipated new land, which culminated in a brief looks inside the land itself.

Honey, I Shrunk the Guests

“We get to walk into Andy’s backyard when we are in Toy Story Land, which means the entire yard needs to be realized to look like a real yard from beginning to end,” Wineinger explains.

Wineinger goes on to explain that unlike other lands in Walt Disney World, Toy Story Land’s vegetation will actually look like over-sized grasses and flowers that you would find in virtually any American backyard.

“From the beginning, you will feel like you are one of Andy’s toys as we are shrinking you down to the size of a toy,” he continues.

Play Big!

Toy Story Land will be a big playground, and Wineinger explains that the whole backyard will be visible as soon as guests walk in to the land. He then goes on to explain the stories behind the new attractions, as well as a beloved favorite.

Toy Story Mania will also get a new entrance, with Wineinger explaining that the entrance will look like a Carnival Games playset owned by Andy, complete with punched out cardboard characters. (NOTE: Toy Story Mania will be going down for awhile to finish the transition to the Toy Story Land entrance.)

Toy Story Land to Open at Walt Disney World June 30

Alien Swirling Saucers is being described as a “Pizza Planet toy that Andy has won by collecting all of his tickets, and in this toy dozens of little green aliens are spinning through the universe of Pepperonia trying to be captured by The Claw.”

Slinky Dog Dash gives Guests a chance to “explore Andy’s imagination, really, by showing how he takes his old toys, his new toys (…) and he combines them all to create this wild adventure throughout his entire backyard.”

The Woody’s Lunch Box counter service restaurant is based on a vintage Woody’s Roundup lunchbox that Andy has left in the backyard. The toys have taken it and created “a little moment for us to grab some food.”

The short tour concluded with Wineinger taking attendees behind the fence to the entrance of Toy Story Land.

You’ve Got a Friend in Toy Story Land

The same day, the official Disney Parks Blog confirmed that Woody, Buzz and Jesse will be on hand to meet and greet with Guests every day starting this summer.

Woody, Buzz and Jessie will be greeting guests throughout Toy Story Land on a daily basis. And each character (along with the rest of the gang) will be joining in on the fun in a land where guests “shrink” to the size of a toy.

Toy Story Land opens to the public on June 30, 2018.

I've loved Disney as long as I can remember. As a former newspaper editor, web developer, and Disney comics freelancer, I'm able to combine that experience into writing about Disney online. I'm also the co-host of a Disney fan podcast called 'Pirates & Princesses.' Opinions mine.
