Vaccine Passports Could Be Coming Soon for U.S. Travelers!

According to The Washington Post, “the Biden administration and private companies are working to develop a standard way of handling credentials (or “vaccine passports”) that would allow Americans to prove they have been vaccinated against COVID-19.”

President Biden has recently pledged that the nation will begin to regain normalcy by summertime and many companies will be requiring proof of vaccinations.

Although Disney and Universal have not announced any change for any of their current policies for Guests who are vaccinated, many other companies will be requiring proof of vaccination before opening their doors. This new “vaccine passport” would be a way for people in the United States to prove that they have been vaccinated.

White House Coronavirus Coordinator, Jeff Zients, stated in a recent briefing:

“Our role is to help ensure that any solutions in this area should be simple, free, open source, accessible to people both digitally and on paper, and designed from the start to protect people’s privacy.”

So how would a “vaccine passport” work exactly?

The passports would be free and available through apps on a Smartphone. The app could display a scannable code similar to an airline boarding pass. Developers have also stated that if you don’t have access to a smartphone you should be able to print the passport out.

The Washington Post also stated:

U.S. officials say they are grappling with an array of challenges, including data privacy and health-care equity. They want to make sure all Americans will be able to get credentials that prove they have been vaccinated, but also want to set up systems that are not easily hacked or passports that cannot be counterfeited, given that forgeries are already starting to appear.

“Vaccine passports” or some type of credentials are likely to be important when it comes to air travel in the coming future. Major airlines and travel associations have recently called on the White House to finalize the vaccine credentials plan by May. A proof of vaccination could likely be necessary for cruises as well.

The Biden administration is expected to release more information about its efforts regarding this “vaccine passport.”

Effective Monday, April 5, all Florida residents shall be eligible to receive any COVID-19 vaccine.

All Californians 16 and up will be eligible for the vaccine starting on April 15.
