We are sad to report that a Walt Disney World Cast member passed away in an “industrial area” near the Pop Century Resort and the Waldorf Astoria golf course today.
News outlets are reporting that it was an “industrial accident,” but not construction related. There isn’t a lot of information about what happened, just that the Reedy Creek Fire Department and sheriff’s deputies reported to a call outside of the Pop Century Resort at a guard gate at 9:15 AM.
Orange County sheriff’s spokesperson Ingrid Tejada-Monforte indicated that the responders found a man in his late 30’s “unconscious and not responsive.”
The individual, Juan Alberto Ojeda, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Reedy Creek Fire Department.
George A Kalogridis, President of the Walt Disney World Resort has released the following statement:
All of us at Walt Disney World Resort are deeply saddened today by the loss of one of our Cast Members. Our thoughts and concerns are with his family, friends, and fellow co-workers. This is a tragic accident, and we are providing resources and care for those impacted and working closely with the proper authorities to understand how this happened
We are not sure what the cast member’s job was or what happened, but we are saddened to hear about his passing. Our thoughts and hearts go out to their family and friends.
