Hey Insiders, Ashley here! I moved to Orlando in 2011 and that was the first time I had heard of Halloween Horror Nights or “HHN” even after traveling to Universal Orlando every year. So if you’re like me 12 years ago, there’s a chance that you don’t exactly understand what this incredible event is and I want to be the one to share that with you.
Every year (for the past 32 to be exact) Universal Orlando puts on a separately ticketed event that includes:
- 10 Haunted Houses
- 5 Scare Zones
- Live Entertainment
- Rides & Attractions
- Themed Food & Drinks
- Themed Merchandise
Let me start off by saying that if you do not like to be scared, this is not the event for you. But if you can handle it just for one night to appreciate the creativity and art that goes into the making of this event…it’s worth it. Universal also does not recommend this event for guests under 13 and I have to agree. The content is no joke!
Below I’m going to answer the 5 questions that I had when I first heard murmurings of HHN and these answers will hopefully help you wrap your head around this genius event that is running from Sept. 1st – Nov. 4th from 6:30pm – 2:00am.
- How much are tickets? Single night tickets start at $79.99. Express passes start at $139.99 (requires event admission). Guided tours start at $329.99. There are other options like Frequent Fear passes, Scream Early ticket and Unmasking the Horror Tours. Our friends at Academy Travel always help us with tickets and we put a link to get in contact with them at the bottom of this article.
- What are the haunted houses? The cool thing about this event is that they change the houses every year and they are incredible. While I’m scared to death in some of them, I also try to make it a point and look at the details in the outfits, props, theming, etc. This year’s houses are (I put asterisks next to my 3 favorties):
- Stranger Things 4
- The Exorcist: Believer*
- The Last of Us
- Chucky: Ultimate Kill Count
- Universal Monsters: Unmasked
- Dr. Oddfellow’s Twisted Origins
- YETI: Campground Kills
- Dueling Dragons: Choose Thy Fate*
- The Darkest Deal
- Bloodmoon: Dark Offerings*
- What are the scare zones? There are themed areas around the park where scare actors ensure that you are scared!
- Dr. Oddfellow’s Collection of Horror
- Dark Zodiac
- Junge of Doom: Expedition Horror
- Vamp ’69: Summer of Blood
- Shipyard 32: Horrors Unhinged
- What type of Live Entertainment can I expect?
- Every year there is a brand new show that’s better than the last. This year’s show is called Nightmare Fuel Revenge Dream where you can expect to see pyro and aerial performers.
- Is there anything I should know before going? Keep an eye out for the Death Eaters Encounter – this is a first time ever experience in Dragon Alley and cannot be missed.
I went to the media preview on the first night with Academy Travel and you can see our recap in this YouTube video! You can also follow us on Instagram and check out our HHN 32 highlight where you’ll find all of our coverage from this year’s event.
