We’re going to tell you about one of the most underrated attractions at Disneyland Park, which is bound to be where you and your family will make magical core memories when you visit! You can travel to Pirates Lair at Tom Sawyer’s Island by log raft across the Rivers of America and retrace the steps of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn when they ran away to live carefree lives as pirates! Families with kids LOVE this place. It’s an especially special attraction because it’s the only one designed by Walt Disney.
Walt revered Mark Twain’s novels and wanted the island to reflect the world Twain conjured in his stories. Days before construction began, he took the plans home and reimagined the design, creating the inlets, coves, and atmosphere the island is known for today. In 2007, enchanting enhancements were added, and the attraction was renamed Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island.
The island is filled with tall, lush trees that provide lots of shade; wander quiet paths shaded by sycamore and oak trees and enjoy scenic views of the riverbanks (you may even spot an Indian or two!). Around every corner, there is adventure to be had and gold to be discovered. Dare to cross creaky suspension bridges in Smuggler’s Cove, explore the haunted caves of Dead Man’s Grotto, and climb through a fort built by the frontier’s early settlers.
Pirates Lair is the perfect spot for families to picnic (there are many benches and picnic tables around!) and let little ones run all their energy out. Imaginations can run wild here, and adventures of a lifetime await in every cave (and there are lots!). Even adults will revel in the magic on this island as they, too, search for treasure and come across pirates in eerie caves. Just by walking through New Orleans Square, one could never tell how much adventure awaits on this little island, so don’t miss out.
