Sometimes, my husband and I need a break from our children when we’re at Walt Disney World. A bold statement, I know. But it’s the truth and I’m willing to wager most parents feel the same way. At least most of you reading this because at some point today you’ve probably googled “childcare services in Walt Disney World,” and found your way to this article. If that’s the case then, “Bright Suns” and allow me to fill you in on one of the best kept childcare secrets at Disney.
Parents, there’s no shame in admitting that even on your family vacation, you need a break. For my husband and me, it’s not necessarily a situation where the kids are misbehaving or driving us nuts. It’s that we truly enjoy a Disney date night. It makes us feel like the couple we once were, who vacationed and even honeymooned in the happiest place on Earth. You can believe me when I say this is a judgment-free zone and I strongly encourage you and your spouse using a sitter service and going out on a date night in Disney. You’ll come back refreshed and ready for rope drop the next morning.
Just this past year I’ve placed my kids in Captain Hook’s Pirate Crew at the Yacht Club and Pixar Play Zone at the Contemporary Resort. Although my boys had a great time at each kids club, I decided to look for a service where the sitter comes to our room.
Kids Nite Out is a family-owned and operated business that provides in-room sitter services, convention and wedding services, kids camps, and much more. Both Walt Disney World and Lowes Hotels and Resorts endorse and recommend Kids Nite Out to their guests as a trusted childcare provider. This is all well and great but it wasn’t enough for me. Like any parent, I fell down the google rabbit hole as I tried to find any information I could from anyone who had used Kids Nite Out’s services. To my pleasant surprise, there wasn’t a whole lot of reviews out there, but anything I found was positive and reassured me I was making the right choice.
Before I go any further, I should mention my situation as a mother. I’m a “boy mom” to two very active, very busy, and sometimes hyper little boys. They’re 6 and 4 years old, I’m well aware of the fact that I have my hands full. That being said, I’m very particular about who watches my kids. I feel like it needs to be someone who understands how little boys operate. Before you write to me, I acknowledge and understand that not all boys are like this. However, mine are and so are most tiny males I’ve come across. That being said, I wanted someone who was experienced with boys who like to play the occasional game of Wrestle Mania in a hotel room. When I called to make a reservation, I expressed my concern and the woman on the phone assured me she made notes on my reservation and would find someone who would be a great fit for my two boys.
Three days later, Genna arrived promptly at our resort room door. She was dressed in a purple Kids Nite Out polo, her name tag showing, and was carrying a bag full of age-appropriate games, books, and crafts. We exchanged numbers, went over a few details and directions regarding the kids and as we were talking, my 4-year-old came up to her and asked- “Do you play Plants vs Zombies.” I’m not sure if you’ve heard of this game, but he’s into it and when he’s allowed time on his tablet, it’s his game of choice. As I was about to explain to him that Genna probably hadn’t heard of it, she was quick to respond to him, “I love Plants vs Zombies!” My jaw dropped and I asked her if she was joking. She laughed and explained how her younger cousins play that game, so she was well versed in saving all the plants and beating the zombies. His face lit up like a Christmas tree and at that moment, I knew my boys were in good hands. To be completely honest, my youngest is my wild one. Nothing wrong with it, all parents have one, and he’s mine. The second I saw Genna connecting with him, my heart was full and I was able to truly enjoy a night out with my husband.
Throughout the night, Genna would text a few updates, which eased my mind even more. I can’t express to you how wonderful it felt to not be worried about the kids. Sure, I was worried, parents always are when they aren’t with their little ones. However, aside from leaving my kids with family, I never had a feeling of complete reassurance that everything was fine. Kids Nite Out, specifically- Genna, allowed for my husband and me to have a night where we lived and breathed the essence of “Hakuna Matata.”
In my opinion, Kids Nite Out is an affordable service. Considering you’re in Disney World and the fact that a sitter at home could run you $15-$20 an hour anyway. Rates are $20 an hour. For two children it’s $23/hour, three children it’s $26/hour, four children it’s $29/hour and for five or more children you will need to ask about a rate over the phone. There is also a $12 transportation fee.
Their caregivers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Reservations may begin as early as 6:30 am and/or may begin as late as 11:00 pm. Kids Nite Out is popular among the runDisney crowd. Parents who both want to run may use Kids Nite Out as early as 3:00 am. You can have a sitter come to your room and be with your children (even if they’re sleeping the entire time), while you participate in a runDisney race.
Advance reservations are recommended and you’re able to book in-room childcare reservations up to 3 months in advance. I lucked out having only booked a few days before, but I will be sure to book in advance next time. Especially since I’ll be requesting the same sitter. I love how we can request the same person, and my boys look forward to the next time they have Genna.
Each Kids Nite Out childcare provider is at least 18 years of age. They’re certified in child/infant CPR and first aid. Not only are they trained by Kids Nite Out, but each sitter must also complete the Walt Disney World “Traditions” course. Your child-care provider will have had previous childcare or teaching experience and most of them possess a state teaching certificate or a CDA certificate. Lastly, they are thoroughly interviewed, screened, references are checked, and criminal background checks are performed.
I would assume that Kids Nite Out is especially ideal if you have children who aren’t potty trained and/or under the age of 4. Or you need a sitter when a childcare center at a Disney resort isn’t open. The fact that they come directly to you is another bonus. In the past when we’ve used resort services, often times we weren’t staying at that resort they’re located in. Between going to a different resort and dropping them off, you’re likely to lose an hour just with travel time.
I could go on for days about how strongly suggest using Kids Nite Out and how great they were. But in this case, Kids Nite Out has made my job as a Disney Blogger an easy one. The proof is in the pudding with them, so much so that I’ll be using them again for a second time this Saturday. Walt Disney World recommends them, this Disney Mom can’t say enough about them, and now it’s your turn to experience their services for yourself. You’ll wish you had used them sooner, I know I did.
