Will We See A Finalized Plan To Reopen Florida and Its Theme Parks Today?

Governor Ron DeSantis has put together an executive task force team that includes the President of Walt Disney World and the CEO of Universal Orlando Resort. Earlier this week, DeSantis made it clear that by Friday he expected a detailed and finalized plan to reopen Florida’s economy. As of right now, there is no finalized plan.

This morning, the task force announced that they are prepared to work through the weekend to finalize recommendations on reopening the state amid the coronavirus global pandemic. Once the outlines and plans are submitted, they will be finalized into one big report. It will be sent to the Governor (hopefully sometime early next week), and he will have the final say.

Governor DeSantis will meet virtually with the task force throughout the day on Friday and is expected to continue discussing when and how to reopen the state. Although the goal and focus has always been the Florida economy as a whole, no doubt there’s been an emphasis on the state’s attractions. Florida’s tourism industry has been one of the biggest victims of COVID-19.

We can confirm that the Governor has said the state will open in three phases; short, medium, and long term. The overall goal is to make people feel safe again. On Thursday the Governor said, “We need people to have confidence that what’s going on economically is being done safely and with an eye for making sure people are protected.”

Walt Disney World has remained mostly silent on their plans for reopening, unlike Universal’s CEO, John Sprouls. In an article we posted yesterday, Sprouls outline what is likely to be Universal’s four-point plan for reopening.

We’re confident that this weekend will bring us the answers to the questions many of us have been asking.
